Holiday Home Décor in Woodbury
As the calendar turns to November, Halloween pumpkins and ghosts are packed away in anticipation of what can be a daunting task: decorating your home for the holidays. We found some major creative inspiration right here in Woodbury at the home of Ryan Smith and Jeff Jones, where each room has a holiday theme of color, texture and traditions carried out exquisitely with rich wreaths, garlands and trees made by the two men.
“This is the most wonderful time of the year for me—I can’t imagine a greater passion,” says Smith, one of 100 volunteers chosen to decorate the White House in Washington, D.C. last year, working hand-in-hand with the White House chief florist. “When I built this house, concessions were made for the outlets needed above the cabinets and throughout each room for the holiday décor.”
This year, Smith and Jones opened the doors of their home so we could get a peek at their fabulous endeavor, offering simple tips and tricks that anyone can use to transform a home into a seasonal showcase. Come join us on this very special holiday home tour.
The Art of Decoration
The centerpiece of the home is the truly terrific tannenbaum gracing the living room, a nine-foot wonder covered with 5,000 lights and over 300 ornaments, requiring two electrical circuits and three full days of installation from start to finish. This eye-popping beauty features thick taffeta ribbon in deep reds and golds, a color theme carried throughout the spacious room in ribbon, wreaths, poinsettias and other decorating components.
“Decorating starts the weekend before Halloween, and our goal is to have the house completed by Thanksgiving as we leave that weekend to do our families’ houses,” says Jones, a key account representative with Skechers. It’s weekend work as Smith travels during the week as a senior manager, health and public service, with Accenture. “We finally put away the glue gun the first week in December; that’s when we begin entertaining, with two or three gatherings each season,” says Smith.
Décor Details
1) Silver and red provide the backdrop to the holiday decorations on the exterior of Smith and Jones’ home. Shatterproof ornaments grace wreaths on the entry door as well as every window on the front of the home.

2) The Fitz and Floyd Santa and reindeer, complimented by crystal spheres and candle holders, provide a simple, yet elegant welcome from the dining room, directly off the front entry to the home.

3) The fireplace, a focal point of the living room, offers and eye-catching brass candlelabra nestled in garland and surrounded by touches of deep reds and golds featuring in shiny ornaments, sparkling berries and abundant ribbon. The wreath uses many of the same details to pull together a unified mantel.

4) Two themed villages are displayed throughout the home, lit to make them come alive with warm holiday spirit. The largest, the Department 56 Dickens Village, is displayed in custom built-ins in the living room and above the cabinets in the kitchen.
