Woodbury veterans are honored and remembered in various ways this month.

Gather with neighbors to honor those who’ve served in our country’s military. On Veterans Day, the Woodbury Lions Veterans Memorial hosts a ceremony that serves as a time to pause, reflect and give thanks, organized by volunteers from the Lions Club, local veterans organizations, and other Woodbury citizens. This year’s theme focuses on the 75th anniversary of D-Day, and includes a featured speaker. The ceremony concludes with placing flowers on the pavers of the veterans memorial.

Using their considerable skills and artistry to honor local veterans is one of the passions of the River Valley Quilters Guild, a local group of quilters who, among other things, work with organizations that provide quilts for veterans (often known as “honor quilts”). This year they plan to award more than 20 honor quilts to the members of Masonic Lodge #118 in St. Paul Park. You can see River Valley Quilters’ work displayed this fall at R.H. Stafford Library. The quilt presentation to veterans takes place on Veterans Day.
