Woodbury teen captures a quintessential summer moment.

Each month, we feature one of the photos from our 2018 Focus on Woodbury photo contest. This month, we asked 12-year-old (!) photographer Sam Karnuth to tell us about “Fireworks,” which took third place in our Activities & Events category.

Where did you take the photo?
The picture was taken at Woodbury Days in 2018.

What kind of camera did you use?
I used a Nikon D5000.

What’s your favorite thing about the image, or what struck you about the scene and inspired you to take it?
I’ve always liked taking fireworks pictures, so I tried a long exposure, which makes the fireworks look cool.

What’s your photography background?
I started taking photos on my phone about two years ago when I was 10. My older brother, who is a photographer and videographer, started showing me how to use cameras.
