The early-learning Spanish immersion school grows to fit the community’s needs.

Since 2020, Alma Flor Ada Spanish Immersion Early Learning Academy (AFA) has provided an immersive bilingual education to students in Woodbury and its surrounding communities. In 2026, AFA will welcome over 200 additional early learners to its student body thanks to an expansion that broke ground on December 12.

“I have dedicated the last 30 years to education,” AFA founder Lucilla Dávila says. “Breaking ground at our new location feels surreal—dreams truly do come true! As a Latina woman in business and an entrepreneur, I am incredibly proud and thankful for our AFA families and the Woodbury community.”

The new 917 Stephens Way location will feature state-of-the-art classrooms designed with the research of professor Alma Flor Ada in mind. Ada, the school’s namesake, is a well-known author and educator who has extensively shaped the current understanding of bilingual education at a national level. With this expansion, AFA looks to promote academic excellence, share cultural diversity and prepare children aged 24 months through kindergarten for their academic futures.
