Woodbury-based East Metro Symphony Orchestra (EMSO) is pleased to present Pastoral. Admission to this concert is free. Donations in support of the orchestra’s work in the community are always appreciated.
Suited for a springtime concert, Pastoral will feature several pieces that spark in the imagination visions of pastures and country life, as well as big flourishing emotions mixed in with moments of quiet reflection. The centerpiece of the concert will be Ruth Gipps’ Symphony No. 2, an amazing one movement symphony that was written in 1945 but didn’t get its premiere in the United States until 2018. The first movement of Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, Rossini’s Guillame Tell Overture and Mark O’Conner’s Appalachia Waltz will represent different visions of wide-open landscapes. Completing this spring of great musical selections, the orchestra will also perform Pavane pour une infante défunte by Maurice Ravel and Spanish Dance by Dmitri Shostakovich.
