The Polar Plunge

Photo: Joe Briol

This photo took second place in the Activities & Events category of our 2018 Focus on Woodbury photo contest.

Each month, we feature one of the photos from our 2018 Focus on Woodbury photo contest. This month, we asked photographer Joe Briol to tell us about “Polar Plunge!” which took second place in our Activities & Events category.

When and where did you take the photo?
Last February 10, at Carver Lake Beach, during the Woodbury Polar Plunge festivities.

What kind of camera did you use?
I used a Canon 5D iii.

What’s your favorite thing about the image, or what struck you about the scene and inspired you to take it?
I like the action and the expressions on the faces of the participants. These two had jumped several times that day, and their enthusiasm and bravery never flagged.

What’s your photography background?
I’ve been taking photos for nearly 20 years and doing freelance work for about the last two to three.

Submit your photos in August to our 2019 Focus on Woodbury contest. Follow woodburymag.com for updates and details.
