A new local theater group is mounting its first production this month, with high hopes for community engagement—and, of course, a fantastic show.

During the past year, a group of longtime Woodbury theater folks came together to found Open Door Community Theatre to “bring together the considerable talent and deep experience of volunteers, to stage high-quality productions in partnership with and for the benefit of local organizations,” according to their mission statement.

The group selected Shrek: The Musical for Open Door’s first production. The cast includes kids and adults, and the show is full of great music, humor and heart. Proceeds from this show will benefit the Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf.

Open Door is volunteer-led with a board of directors (chaired by Tom Vaaler, a longtime local theater guru), and organizers hope to partner with other community organizations to find ways to give back.
