The City of Woodbury hosts commemorative trail walks.

Last June, a routine stroll through the park turned into an unexpected learning experience for many Woodbury residents. The community had the chance to encounter history where they least expected it, along a familiar path transformed into a self-paced lesson. This year, locals will have more opportunities for education as the City of Woodbury (woodburymn.gov) hosts the Juneteenth Trail Walks for another year.

The City of Woodbury’s community relations coordinator Genesis Sudderth reflected on the goal of the event. “We wanted this to be an educational opportunity, offering a little bit of history on the holiday while people enjoy the beauty of our parks and trail system,” she says.

The self-guided trail walks feature informational signs at City Hall, Colby Lake Park and Ojibway Park, allowing participants to explore on their own time. Designed to be accessible and informal, the experience blends learning with convenience. “People can drop in at their leisure and learn about Juneteenth at their own pace,” Sudderth says. The signs will be up and trails open from June 1–22.
