In the magazine industry, writers and editors tend to work months in advance to get issues to print. In this case, I’m writing this note to you, readers, in the middle of September—just days before I walk down the aisle to be married. At the time of publication, my husband and I will be gathering with our families for the holidays for the first time as husband and wife. And it has me feeling incredibly sentimental. In our November issue of Woodbury Magazine, we’re celebrating all the things leading up to the tenderness of the holiday season.
In our cover story, you’ll meet the Starken family: husband and wife duo Dan and Jessie, along with their children, Garrett and Mitchell, who is diagnosed with Gould syndrome. Writer Jennifer Pitterle talks with the Starken family about Mitchell’s diagnosis and the donation of several home renovations from Custom One Charities—all aimed to create a better life experience for Mitchell and the family.
Readers, who’s to say that Thanksgiving needs to be a time of stress? Renée Stewart-Hester gathers up a checklist of tasks and chores to complete in the weeks and days leading up to the holidays. And if you’re looking to add in a super taste to your Thanksgiving meal plan, look toward our Tastemakers section, where writer Kristie Smith shares the power of one superfruit and recipes for Turkey Day.
Who’s to say … I would love to hear about what you’re cherishing this month.
Send me a note at hailey@localmedia.co. Happy Thanksgiving!
