Although I wouldn’t call myself a fanatic, I enjoy a show every now and then. My first Broadway performance was The Lion King, which I saw on the big stage in New York City—it was beautiful, seemingly effortless and certainly a spectacle. That was in spring 2012, and though I haven’t seen another Broadway show, I’ve been to many high school stage productions and have enjoyed streaming productions—Hamilton, anyone?
In this celebratory Best of Woodbury issue, not only are we celebrating the people, places and things that make our community the best of the best, we’re also commemorating the venues that bring a true sense of community to our homes. So, cue the curtain, readers! You voted, and on page 42, you’ll find the Best of Woodbury list of winners—congratulations to our winners and runners-up! You may also notice that we have a few new categories this year—Best Pizza, Best Plant-Based Menu, Best OBGYN and Best Jeweler included.
Flip to page 45 to take a behind-the-scenes look at some of our local theater venues. For Woodbury High School student and Royal Theatre cast member Kyra Sego, theater is more than just a production—it’s “a break from reality; where nothing else matters for a couple of hours, and you can just have fun singing, dancing and acting with your favorite people,” she says.
We’re also celebrating the season of summer with the City of Woodbury’s annual Fourth of July Hometown Celebration. Find the details about the sizzling event on page 50.
